I thought this book was dreadful as a teenager to read. It was set during the Civil War where slavery was present and its hard to relate to that. I thought it was a sappy novel and it contained few if any happy moments. Plus, Geraldine Brooks' writing wasn't always easy to understand. READ IT! or don't
